Flashback

Coming: July 2024

This summer the Frazier History Museum will open Flashback: Louisville Media Through the Years, a new temporary exhibition that focuses on the history of media in Louisville and its impact on our lives. You will learn about how media changed and transformed over the years, from Louisville’s first newspaper, the Louisville Public Advertiser, established in 1819, through the new digital media that encompasses our lives today. The exhibition will showcase Kentucky’s first radio station, WHAS, and the first television station, WAVE, both out of Louisville. Flashback highlights big headlines from Louisville history, such as Bloody Monday in 1855, the 1937 Flood, the first televised Kentucky Derby in 1949, the 1974 Tornado, the Standard Gravure shooting in 1989, and the 2020 protests, and shows how news coverage of major events has evolved over time.  This exhibition takes a nostalgic look at some of the individuals and programs you loved watching and listening to, those you invited into your home and trusted as your news source. Flashback is designed to be engaging and entertaining for visitors of all ages and will feature multi-media installations. It will feature historic equipment, documents, and footage on loan from many of Louisville major media outlets.
